Dr. John Valsamis received his B.Sc. and D.V.M from the University of Guelph. After graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1990, Dr. Valsamis practiced medicine and surgery of dogs, cats, birds and exotics at several hospitals in Toronto, Scarborough and Mississauga. Dr. Valsamis opened Britannia Animal Hospital with Dr. Heather White in 1993. Dr. Valsamis’ main interests in veterinary medicine include avian and exotic animal medicine.
Aviculture has been a huge passion for Dr. Valsamis since childhood. In the past, Dr. Valsamis has spoken at several parrot meetings and actively promotes psittacine aviculture and it’s involvement in the retail sector from British Columbia to Quebec. His membership with the Association of Avian Veterinarians began in 1986 and he is fascinated with the advancements of avian medicine and surgery with each new journal.
As a councilor on both the registration and discipline committees for the College of Veterinarians of Ontario for several years, Dr. Valsamis gained valuable experience in the regulatory aspects of veterinary medicine. Dr. Valsamis was also on the board of directors of the Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency Hospital and Referral Group (MOVEH).
When not in the clinic, Dr. Valsamis is busy with his family, landscaping and working on various construction and artistic projects.
